CULTURAL EVENT WEEK

Today we learned how to make a home remedy similar to a heating pad.  We found out that there were no Target or Walgreen stores around to visit when we were sick and moms had to make up their own medicines and remedies at home using things that were around.  First graders mixed mustard seed, cornmeal, and boiling water together.  We then pressed it between some cloth we tore into squares to make a heating pad.  A simple recipe book and wooden spoon are on their way home today if you’d like to try a few new tricks from the Civil War days.  Enjoy.

NO SCHOOL

Don’t forget we have NO SCHOOL on both Friday 10/7 and Monday 10/10.  Friday is an Institute Day and Monday is Columbus Day.  Enjoy the long weekend and take time to appreciate the changing colors of the trees with your children. Maybe collect a few great colored leaves and press them to save for a book or collection.

NO SCHOOL – LABOR DAY

Enjoy the time off with your children :]

Since Labor Day is dedicated to workers, take a moment to talk to your son or daughter about what you do at work. Everyone plays a role or works a job to support our community and helping kids understand and appreciate that is important. Share the idea that their ‘job’ is to go to school and try their very best.
