What busy months these are!!! We had our field trip to the Holocaust Museum today and the students were wonderful! They all participated, asked questions, and were especially kind and courteous to our guide! We now look forward to kindergarten and eighth grade graduations and a day at Rosemont Park on May 23rd. We are still striving to keep our focus on learning as we prepare for junior high.
As school comes to an end and summer vacation begins, there is more time for leisure and relaxation, as there should be. However, all of us want our children to remain sharp and truly be prepared for 6th grade. Minds need stimulation as well as rest. To achieve this over the summer, have your children read. They can read comics, travel brochures about a place you plan to visit, books from their own collection or from the library. Read with your child. Take turns reading or ask them to tell you about what they read.
In addition, mathematical skills should be reinforced. Review all the facts the children have worked hard on to learn. Use flashcards or workbooks. Remember, a few minutes a day can make a difference in struggling in math in August, or just reviewing.
When you take a vacation or a trip locally, have them write in a journal. This will keep up their writing skills, and they may enjoy going back to read what they wrote about a fun trip.
It was a pleasure being your child’s teacher and getting to know them. I was lucky to watch them grow and mature. I wish you a safe, relaxing, and very enjoyable summer!
